Oklahoma Farmhouse

Oklahoma Farmhouse

Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Completion: 2018
Size: 3100 SF
Contractor: Sun Custom Homes
Photographer: Leonid Furmansky

The farmhouse is located on 28 acres just north of downtown Oklahoma City, tucked behind a small grove of trees at the front of the property and backed by woods. When the owners purchased the land, they envisioned creating a peaceful retreat within the city, building the farmhouse as the first piece. Several elements were considered in the siting of the house, including a future workshop, apple orchard and gardens, a pond, bee hives, and two giant elm trees.

The house has two front elevations: a street side, which is mostly hidden from view by a treeline, and the side from the driveway as it curves around the two elm trees. A large porch wraps around from the front door to sliding doors off the dining room and includes an outdoor fireplace. The garage is connected to the house by a greenhouse breezeway, the most frequented access point to the house by the owners. A back door off the greenhouse leads to the workshop.

The owners wanted a space suited for large gatherings of friends. The interior spaces are organized by public and private functions, with an open layout for the living, dining, and kitchen areas, and everything else tucked at the back of the house, out of view.
